THE POSITION

The essential work of this position involves collaborating with staff members within the DOH, Division of Infectious Disease Investigations in the implementation of a state-of-the-art surveillance, epidemiology, and public health program to identify, investigate, control, and prevent reportable disease outbreaks in Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Public Health Physician, you will offer consultation on subjects related to public health situations utilizing published national standards and guidelines. You will also be responsible for directing and providing clinical and epidemiological expertise to a statewide public health network of more than 300 state and municipal employees across the 6 health districts, 60+ state health centers, and 11 county and municipal health departments. You will have an opportunity to provide guidance and support in response to infectious disease outbreaks for identification of etiological agents, sources, modes of transmission, and appropriate methods for disease prevention and control. In addition, you will analyze, develop, and recommend revisions to infectious disease policy and procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation with a degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathy from a medical school approved or recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board or the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Licensing Board and completion of an approved U.S. residency training program; and two (2) years of professional medical experience, including one (1) year in a public health setting.

Special Requirement:
  • You must possess a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued by the State Medicine Board or Osteopathic Medicine Board; or be eligible for such licensure. Candidates must obtain the required license prior to beginning employment.


Allocation Term: Public Health
  • Public Health is defined as the provision of health care services, treatment, prevention and/or detection of disease for targeted population groups within a community at large, with a goal of optimal health for all. It does not involve provision of services on an isolated, individual basis.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
