Job Summary:

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor in clinical pathology. Responsibilities will include clinical diagnostic service and clinical teaching, teaching pre-clinical veterinary students in an integrated curriculum, collaborative research, and academic service. Competitive candidates will be committed to excellence in diagnostic clinical pathology, training of clinical pathology residents, and excellence in teaching in the DVM curriculum. The minimum requirements for the selected candidate include a DVM or equivalent, ACVP (CP) or ECVCP board eligibility, and licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin. Two years of post-residency experience in clinical diagnostic pathology are preferred but not required. ACVP (CP) or ECVCP Board Certification must be obtained within the first 15-months of hire.

The selected individual will support the teaching hospital through performance of clinical pathology service and participate in the teaching mission of the SVM. Responsibilities within the diagnostic laboratory include cytologic and select hematology examinations, review of diagnostic reports, consultation on other laboratory tests, and interpretation of flow cytometric data. In addition, there is shared oversite of laboratory equipment, procedures, and quality with the other pathologists, laboratory supervisor, and staff. Limited out-of-hours cytology (in-person) and troubleshooting or consultation (by phone) are shared by duty pathologists. The selected individual will effectively communicate with clinicians from other hospital services, including participation in cross-disciplinary rounds. They will participate in mentoring and training clinical pathology residents, teaching in the veterinary curriculum, and academic service. Teaching-track faculty are expected to contribute significantly to the development and creation of the UW-SVM curriculum and to engage in the scholarship of learning and teaching through publications and presentations.

The approximate distribution of effort for teaching-track is expected to be:
* Clinical practice: 30%
* Non-clinical teaching: 50%
* Research: 10%
* Service: 10%


Responsibilities:
Please note: The process for placement into the Teaching Professor and Research Professor titles is to be determined. Designs and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Each department must define the specific substantive criteria for level advancement, however, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

  • 50% Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • 5% Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • 15% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • 5% May supervises student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • 10% Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • 5% Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • 10% Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
