Stony Brook University: Provost Office: College of Arts & Sciences: Chemistry Location Department of Chemistry, Stony Brook University Open Date Oct 07, 2024 Deadline Dec 02, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description The Department of Chemistry at Stony Brook University seeks to hire a tenure track faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level to begin in Fall 2025 with expertise in any field of chemistry. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered if they are imminently prepared to apply for promotion to Associate Professor. The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field. Emphasis will be placed on candidates with an interest in and overlap with Stony Brook University's strategic priorities in the areas of climate, artificial intelligence, and/or quantum information science. The new faculty member is expected to have already established a vibrant, extramurally funded research program and have a strong commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research in the Department of Chemistry is highly interdisciplinary. Many faculty have cross-appointments in other departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Renaissance School of Medicine, and at neighboring institutions, such as Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Faculty in the department are members of various institutes and centers, which serve as hubs for interdisciplinary research; these include the Institute for Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery, the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, the Institute for Advanced Computational Science, two DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Centers on synthesis science and energy storage, the Center for Advanced Technology in Integrated Electric Energy Systems, and the Center for Advanced Study of Drug Action. The NIH-funded Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Program and the NSF-funded Research Traineeship Award, "Harnessing the Data Revolution," provide additional graduate student training and connectivity. Nearby BNL provides state-of-the-art facilities for chemistry, nanoscience, and energy, including the Center for Functional Nanomaterials and the National Synchrotron Light Source II. The recently completed Medical and Research Translation building of the School of Medicine is a focal point for translational research and bioimaging. Candidates should submit a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a concise description of their research program and future plans, and a statement of teaching and mentoring experience and interests. Highlighting complementarity, synergy, and fit with ongoing research activities at Stony Brook University and the Chemistry Department is encouraged. Applicants should also provide the names and contact information for three references; references will only be solicited for a short list of candidates.
