Job Details:

Purpose

Assists Dr. Stephen T. Russell with ongoing studies of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) and youth and adult health and wellbeing. Position involves implementation of study design; identification, management and analysis of relevant project data; preparation of written reports; and publications for lay audiences and academic articles. The project is led by Dr. Stephen Russell and based at the UT Population Research Center. Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership, direction and guidance for graduate and undergraduate research assistants affiliated with project. Participates with project partners (PI, Program Coordinators, research assistants, funders, and community partners) to develop and implement dissemination materials for funders, lay and academic audiences.

  • Coordinates activities of projects with related activities of other research and outreach projects in the UT School of Human Ecology / Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, and Population Research Center. Prepares proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors. Develops and facilitates or oversees facilitation of workshops, meetings or conference presentations.

  • Collaborates on funded study of adolescent health at the intersections of sexual and gender identities, race/ethnicity, and immigrant identity, focused on health, academic and social wellbeing. Manage, combine, and analyze multiple large administrative and survey data sources that include (a) repeated cross-section designs and (b) multiple level of analysis (merging and analyzing data across students, teachers, schools, school districts, and other geographic regions). Outstanding secondary data management and analysis skills required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. (or doctorate level) degree in field appropriate for project (human development / family sciences; sociology; education; psychology; demography; public health)

  • Experience with large-scale survey data management and analyses

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following fields of study: adolescent sexual orientation and gender identity, gender, intersectionality, health, sexuality education, school discipline and safety, education inequalities.

  • Ability to read and understand social science research and translate it for non-researchers.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the management and analysis of large-scale social / behavioral / health sciences surveys of adolescents or adults; experience with advanced survey research statistical methods (e.g., complex sample structure adjustments; sample weights; multi-level modeling; structural equation modeling). Experience as and desire to mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants. Particularly desired: Ability to manage, combine, and analyze multiple large administrative and survey data sources that include (a) repeated cross-section designs and (b) multiple levels of analysis (students, teachers, schools, and school districts).

Salary Range

$61,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
