Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and assist Corps Officers (Executive Directors) in the coordination of all youth and family ministries. This position will help plan, develop, and execute mission driven programs and opportunities that cater to the spiritual needs of the community and congregation.

Essential Functions



  • Will be a part of church leadership and family ministry team.
  • Responsible for overseeing Youth and Family congregational life.
  • Under the direction of the corps officer(s), will lead youth ministries and family services including, but not limited to Salvation Army youth programs and Corps initiatives.
  • Plan, create and implement Bible lessons for youth, young adults, and families.
  • Will lead and coordinate the recruitment and development of volunteer leadership & support in ministry-specific programs and initiatives.
  • Will lead in youth and family outreach that includes program growth, spiritually as well as numerically.
  • Build, develop and maintain "like-minded" community relationships that affect, assist, and contribute to the ministry of the church community center.
  • Drive for ministry programs as needed.
  • Assist in keeping statistics and support efforts in keeping family profiles.
  • Able to create, develop and implement fundraisers to support youth and family programs.
  • Promote new programs, partnerships, and any youth and family initiatives pertaining to the needs of the community and Salvation Army community center.
  • Support major community center programs and departments: Seasonal events, special fundraisers, educational initiatives, health and fitness opportunities.
  • Support social service programs as needed.
  • Oversee the registration, advertisement, and communication components of all youth and family ministry programs and activities.
  • Help bridge education and social service families to ministry opportunities.
  • Network with other agencies and youth programs.
  • Other related duties as required.


Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • CA Driver's license (required)
  • 21 years of age (required)
  • Experience in Christian education (preferred)
  • Experience in ministry and church context
  • Experience working with youth (2 years preferred)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (Usually file boxes)


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Great communication skills
  • Ability to lead group activities and events.
  • Computer literate and highly versed in social media platforms
  • Ability to read, write, speak understand English.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, and use of Word and Excel.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
