Crisis Mental Health Counselor- Bellingham, WA ***12-hour Shifts*** Supervision toward Licensure Hours MSW qualify as MHP with MSW degree PFLA enrolled organization What you will be performing The Mental Health Counselor/Clinician II provides crisis intervention mental health services to persons of all ages experiencing acute behavioral health issues. These services will be provided primarily in community settings to individuals who are in crisis or for whom a crisis episode is deemed to be imminent. This is a full-time float position which will cover up to 40 hours per week of variable shifts in Whatcom County as assigned. Days worked may vary week to week depending on the staffing needs of the teams. During weeks when no coverage is needed, this position will work on days as defined by the MHP Staffing Pattern, to provide additional coverage for the assigned team.
- Complies with all accurate and appropriate charting, coding, and billing procedures as required by the regulatory organizations.
- Documents delivery of services in the medical record. Completes all paperwork to agency standard and within required timelines.
- Meets or exceeds service hour expectations and/or response time expectations established by the agency.
- Stabilizes the crisis situation at the site of contact whenever possible, utilizing a variety of intervention options, including referrals to non-mental health/support services, referral for assessment for outpatient services, referral of consideration for an urgent psychiatric med evaluation, and facilitation of support in home/community by Crisis Stabilization Aides.
- Provides evaluations for clients in acute crisis in various settings throughout the county.
- Takes active measures to ensure client and community safety when less restrictive options are not reasonably expected to resolved the presenting crisis episode. This may include facilitation of placement in Triage Center, voluntary psychiatric hospitalization, or referral to DMHP/DCR for evaluation and involuntary detention.
- Complies with ITA requirements/laws and/or coordinates services with L.R. Specialist. Notifies DMHP's, writes affidavits, and serves as a witness in court when involuntary treatment is indicated. Continues to testify on consumer's behalf for the duration that Involuntary Treatment is indicated (at the end of 72 hours, 14 days, 90 days, etc.).
- Participates in the rotation of the after hour emergency/crisis response including initial crisis assessment safety risk and outreach as needed.
What you will bring with you
- MA/MS/MSW Degree in a Behavioral Science related field.
- Qualifies as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) as defined by WAC.
- Training in Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and Trauma-Informed Care preferred. Ability to obtain training within 60 days of hire required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Evidence-Based Practices, or interest and ability to learn.
- Individuals who do not already hold a license or associate license through the Washington State Department of Health must submit Agency Affiliated Counselor application upon hire and be approved by the DOH.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License including vehicle and appropriate insurance.
