Overview

RTI International is seeking a full-time editor to work with RTI's research staff in the production of technical reports, tables and figures, proposals, journal articles, presentations, and similar publications. The successful candidate will have experience working with style guides such as The Chicago Manual of Style and will be comfortable working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. Our large group of publications professionals enjoys a collegial and supportive working environment, in which we collaborate with new colleagues to acclimate them to both RTI and their role. Our work is fast-paced and deadline-driven.

This position is based at RTI's headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and candidates can choose between a remote, hybrid, or in-office environment. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.

Responsibilities

  • Edit a variety of documents for organization, grammar, style, and consistency
  • Edit at various levels of edit and using established style guides
  • Format documents in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Work in SharePoint and a content management system
  • Work on multiple activities with competing deadlines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 full years of professional copyediting experience or equivalent education/copyediting experience
  • Working knowledge of principles, terminology, and methodology of technical editing and document organization
  • Working knowledge of grammar and punctuation rules
  • Effective organizational skills and communication skills
  • Skill in observing detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Skill in internet searching and academic bibliography development
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions/guidelines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Additional optional qualifications:

  • Ability to use styles to format Microsoft Word documents
  • Ability to create simple figures and charts in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat markup
  • Ability to pass federal security clearance for work as a government contractor
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements (Section 508 compliance)
