The Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Violin. We seek an accomplished, dedicated, and inspiring artist/teacher to join our string faculty and continue building a robust and vibrant undergraduate violin program within the diverse environment of a large public research university. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of professional activity that includes and transcends the traditional canon. We are searching for an innovative role model with a strong pedagogical background and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive artistic excellence.
The duties for the position include:
* Teaching violin majors in performance and music education concentrations.
* Recruit and retain a robust undergraduate violin studio.
* Coach chamber music ensembles.
* Design and develop curricula and/or programs that incorporate diverse repertoire and performing experiences within and beyond the traditional canon.
* Maintain an active artistic profile, nationally/internationally.
* Collaborate with faculty and students within the Department of Music, as well as with other departments and organizations both on and off-campus; facilitate interdisciplinary projects and performances.
* Engage in service activities within the Department of Music, the School, the University, and the local musical community. Participate in committees, student advising, and other departmental responsibilities. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
* A master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
* A significant record of ongoing professional experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician.
* Demonstrated excellence in performing and teaching musical genres within and beyond the traditional canon
* Commitment to teaching at the college/university level and attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding students.
* Commitment to promoting, programming, and teaching works by composers from underrepresented groups.
* Commitment to working with students from diverse and under-represented communities.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multifaceted academic environment, including collaborations in the Department of Music, Mason Gross School of the Arts, and the wider university.
Preferred Qualifications
* Record of commissioning/premiering/recording new works for violin
* Experience with string pedagogy

Housed in one of the leading public research universities on the East Coast, the Department of Music at Mason Gross School of the Arts includes approximately 450 students and 100 total faculty, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees (
DMA and PhD) as well as an artist diploma across a comprehensive range of areas in performance, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, music theory, and musicology. Students perform, teach, refine their skills, and forge new paths in the arts through their scholastic and creative endeavors, engaging with faculty who are among the world's leaders in their respective fields, including several who are drawn from the nearby New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra. Students benefit from proximity to these two cultural hubs, with ensembles regularly performing in such venues as the Blue Note Jazz Club, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.
