Responsibilities

We are seeking an Circulating Nurse (PRN), internally referred to as our Operating Room Circulating Registered Nurse at Providence Medical Center (Kansas City, KS) a member of Prime Healthcare. You will be a part of a close-knit, highly collaborative operating room team that assists with Orthopedics, Podiatry, Neurosurgery, Urology, Gastroenterology, and General Surgeries. The OR Circulating RN is an essential member of the perioperative team, who advocates for patients that are under anesthesia and/or sedation and the RN that conducts an inventory of supplies and equipment used during and after the surgical procedure. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PRN.

Shift's Available: Days (No Weekends)

Employment Type: Per Diem (PRN)

If you have experience as a Circulating Nurse, Operating Room Nurse, or Surgical Nurse you are encouraged to apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • prepare the operating room, such as setting up surgical trays, ensure the cleanliness of the environment, and confirm that all required equipment is functioning properly
  • assist in preparing the patient for surgery, which may involve verifying the patient's identity and surgical site, helping to position the patient on the operating table, and ensuring that all necessary pre-operative procedures are completed
  • document pertinent information before, during, and after the surgical procedure, such as the patient's vital signs, medications administered, and any other relevant details for the patient's medical record
  • while the surgical team performs the procedure, act as a liaison between the operating room staff and other areas of the hospital
  • maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room by adhering to strict infection control protocols and ensure that all team members follow proper procedures for handling instruments and equipment
  • provide great post-operative care, assist with transferring the patient to the recovery area, ensure that the patient's condition is stable, and provide any necessary post-operative instructions or support

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Current and valid state RN License
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) Certification (AORN) preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
