SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

The Logistics Manager oversees transportation for the clinical manufacturing supply chain, inbound research, discovery and development functions. This individual possesses strong knowledge of domestic and international import/export regulations and is able to effectively troubleshoot any issues that may arise transportation-related to trade documents and clearance execution. Key focus and experience with Cold Chain Logistics are preferred and for the role. This role also requires building relationships with individual team members to ensure proper communication and handling of freight in transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with a diverse internal team across Clinical, Manufacturing, and Quality functions as well as external partners to support the coordination of inbound and outbound cold chain logistics activities.
  • Oversee activities and performance of logistics operations team members and transportation carriers.
  • Manage annual transportation purchase orders and budgets.
  • Review and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared and coordinated between third-party ship sites, CMOs, depots, and sites.
  • Standardize processes and documents required for compliant import and export activities, including reviewing third-party documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to internal business processes and partners related to transport activities managed by Exelixis.
  • Monitor and measure company record keeping activities to ensure logistics team members adhere to company compliance requirements.
  • Monitor critical shipments across each leg of transport and resolve shipping-related issues with freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • Report and investigate shipping incidents with Quality Assurance.
  • Identify risks and sensitivities to drug supply and work with internal partners to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Document and manage shipping lanes for bulk clinical or commercial supply.
  • Perform shipping studies as necessary to qualify transport solutions and procedures.
  • Manage the administration of the Transportation Management System (TMS) for Clinical clinical manufacturing, research, and development shipments.
  • Review and approve invoices for payment and rectify accounts payable discrepancies.
  • Stay informed of global regulatory changes and updates related to international trade in order to ensure compliance.
  • Represent Supply Chain Logistics in Supply meetings and provide visibility through reports and status for key supply lanes to keep the relevant stakeholders informed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May supervise 1 or 2 employees

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline and a minimum of seven years of transportation logistics experience; or,
  • MS/MA degree in supply chain and a minimum of five years of transportation logistics experience; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:

  • Global transportation logistics experience.
  • Experience with Global Import and Export Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Documentation Requirements for shipments.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of GxP in relation to transportation.
  • Experience with cold chain logistics.
  • Experience with SaaS Transport Management application preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills; specifically, in Spreadsheets and Outlook

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous tasks and complete under time constraints.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate applications for oversite of shipments
  • Ability to determine the appropriate packaging and transport provider for shipments
  • Overall knowledge of the pharmaceutical supply chain processes.
  • Strong communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Environment: primarily working indoors, performing clerical work
  • Required to work after/before hours and on weekends when overseeing critical shipments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $116,500 - $165,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors. In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
