Position Overview

NOTE: This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Informing the general public of EOC services through assemblies at organizational meetings, school assemblies, individual and small group sessions;
  • Conduct individual and group meetings with participants to discuss post-secondary admissions and Financial Aid options;
  • Refer and assist participants to their local Adult Education to obtain their GED/Hi-set and follow up with those participants to make sure they are meeting their academic goals;
  • Assist students with completion of Admissions applications, Financial Aid applications, scholarships, etc.;
  • Travel to target areas to conduct meetings with participants;
  • Offer ongoing Financial Aid/literacy information and assistance to participants;
  • Coordinate guest speakers, workshops, and campus tours for EOC participants;
  • Oversee EOC tutors hired at target areas;
  • Establishing and maintaining communication between the institutional and administrative personnel/faculty, particularly the Financial Aid and Admissions office in the target area;
  • Follow-up on referrals made by target area personnel and schedule appointments;
  • Follow-up with students served during previous fiscal year to inform them on important post-secondary deadlines and EOC events;
  • Collect and input participant data into database system;
  • Attend regional, state, and national conferences;
  • Meet all expectations and other duties as assigned or directed;

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in education, social work, counseling, or related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with disadvantaged and racially diverse student population;
  • Knowledge of postsecondary admission and financial aid process;
  • Ability to work with diverse age levels from high school to postsecondary;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Background similar to participants;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous TRIO experience;
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish;
  • Experience working with students one-on-one and in small group settings;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats;
  • Knowledge of project regulations and guidelines;
  • Ability to understand students' needs in education, social and psychological;
  • Knowledge in community and public relations;
