About the team

Worldpay powers 2.2 trillion payments annually across 146 countries in over 135 separate currencies with over a million-merchants supported globally. Worldpay is the largest acquirer by volume globally, we provide a reliable, secure, and scalable payments platform 24x7 365 day a year.

Being part of the 200 strong Infrastructure Services organization, you'll help to engineer and deliver the core infrastructure services that power our payments platform. We're responsible for running some very critical systems, maintaining 20,000 servers via an automation platform, thousands of databases and petabytes of storage hosted from our data centres and public cloud.

We are looking for talented individuals to join the Infrastructure Services organisation; you'll be a self-starter, possess an analytical mindset and be a change agent.

What you'll own

As a Public Cloud Azure Architect, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. This role involves leading the cloud strategy, ensuring the architecture aligns with business goals, and optimizing cloud infrastructure for performance and cost-efficiency. You will be collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure successful implementation, migration and optimization of Cloud Infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Cloud Strategy Development

  • Develop and implement the organization's cloud strategy, including cloud adoption plans, cloud application design, and cloud management and monitoring.

Architecture Design:

  • Design scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on Azure.
  • Identify appropriate use of Azure operational best practices and architectural design patterns.

Migration Planning:

  • Plan and execute the migration of complex, multi-tier applications to Azure.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and manage security measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).

Optimization and Cost Management:

  • Implement cost control mechanisms for Azure cloud-based resources.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Provide architectural guidance and expertise to other IT personnel, including software developers and systems engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Azure services with on-premises networks as required.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

  • Design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies on Azure.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with the latest Azure updates and improvements to provide optimal solutions.

Key Activities:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Azure services, IaaS, PaaS, and experience with tools like Terraform, Azure CLI, Puppet, and Ansible.
  • Scripting: Experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Source Code Management: Proficient with Ansible, Terraform & GIT for source code management.
  • Cloud Security: Knowledge of cloud security best practices and data protection.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Performance Monitoring: Ensure all infrastructure components meet performance and capacity standards.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to address and resolve technical escalations as needed.

This role is dynamic and requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills.

What you bring

  • Azure Services Proficiency: Deep understanding of Azure services, including compute, storage, networking, and databases.
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, or Perl to automate tasks and manage resources efficiently.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform ARM templates, and Ansible to automate infrastructure deployment and management.
  • DevOps Practices: Knowledge of DevOps principles and tools like Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Git for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Security and Compliance: Understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) to ensure data protection and regulatory adherence.
  • Networking: Familiarity with virtual networks, VPNs, load balancers, and other networking components within Azure.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem solving abilities to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly.
