Job Summary:
Assist the Lighting and Sound Supervisor in executing work in the areas of Lighting, Sound, and Projections.
Please note: Working environment hazards include heights, dust and fumes from scenic construction, lifting at least 50 pounds, operation and maintenance of electrical and motorized equipment, risk of construction accidents, occasional use of power
Specific Responsibilities:
- DESIGN and LOAD-IN PROCESS: Work with Lighting & Sound Supervisor and Associate Supervisor to execute engineering and installation of sound and video/projection elements for each production. Plan and execute practical and specialized sound and projection elements in collaboration with Props, Scenic, and Costume departments. Assist in the execution of lighting and sound designs.
- SOUND AND VIDEO INSTALLATION: Install and test sound and video/projection elements for each production. Under the supervision of the Assocciate Lighting & Sound Supervisor hang, circuit, test, and focus lighting elements for each production.
- EVENTS: Provide assistance in areas of lighting, sound and projections to Wirtz-programmed events and other users of Center facilities. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
- SUPERVISION/MANAGERIAL: Provides mentorship to undergraduate students in techniques necessary for handling, rigging, and installation and operation of lighting, sound, and video/projection equipment; however, these students do not report to them. Provide input regarding workflow, need for temporary employees, and improvements in the production process, equipment, and facilities.
- FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT: Assist in the upkeep of the areas of the physical plant directly related to lighting, sound and video/projection, such as shops, storage and control booths. Maintain performance lighting, sound, and video/projection equipment in the Center's spaces.
- REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES: Assist in the restocking of all equipment after a production closes including returns of any rented equipment.
- Duties listed below are executed on an as needed basis and are not consistent, therefore they are grouped together and given a rating of 5%
- Assist with lighting, sound and projection needs with house technician or representative when performances take place outside the Center.
- As assigned, research and report on bids and quotes for specific purchases. Use University OneCard for purchases and submit expense reports for approval.
- From time to time, attend technical rehearsals, etc. outside regular daily schedule in compliance with University and federal overtime policies.
- Attend training sessions in CPR bi-annually and First Aid as required.
- Provide insight for annual reviews and update of this job description.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in technical theatre, design, or its equivalent in a related discipline OR a minimum of three years professional experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
- Possession of a working knowledge of stage lighting, sound and video equipment and techniques.
- Exemplary work habits and the desire to teach them to others.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to plan and complete tasks with minimal direct supervision.
- Working ability in lighting, sound and video-related software
- Experience in the operation of automated lighting fixtures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years professional experience in Lighting, Sound, Video.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Software: Vectorworks, Lightwright, ProTools, Qlab, Isadora, Dante audio networking; Equipment: Yamaha Yamaha and digital mixing consoles, ETC Eos family lighting consoles, Conventional and automated stage lighting. Macintosh computers, Video projection and other AV equipment.
Target hiring amount for this position will be $23.50 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
