About the Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation (CIDI) within the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology is recognized as a leader for services and research in disability, assistive technology, and accessibility. CIDI's mission is to improve the human condition through equal access to technology-based and research-driven information, services, and products for individuals with disabilities. We are dedicated to an inclusive society through innovations in assistive and universally designed technologies, with a goal of addressing the full range of needs for accessibility. We are committed to the promotion of technological innovation and development of user-centered research, products, and services for individuals with disabilities. CIDI also houses the Georgia Assistive Technology Act (AT Act) program, Tools for Life (TFL). TFL's mission is to provide accessible information and technical assistance to people with disabilities and their communities of support that would enable them in their activities and environments of choice.

Job Summary

CIDI seeks applicants for the position of Research Scientist (open rank). The candidate will be responsible for conducting quality research activities at a professional level that support multiple externally sponsored projects and internal research infrastructure.

Responsibilities

General activities pertaining to research projects including:

  • Literature review and generation of annotated bibliographies to support research activities and research proposal development.
  • Management of literary references and citations through reference management software, such as endnote or similar.
  • Creation and management of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols.
  • Research participant recruitment, consent, and management of participant-related research files.
  • Data collection for qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, specifically related to usability and UX research.
  • Descriptive statistics for quantitative data analysis. Thematic coding for qualitative data.
  • Publication manuscript development, editing, and formatting.
Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.1-research-faculty-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines)

Research Scientist I

  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation science, assistive technology, special education, or related field.

Research Scientist II

  • Master's degree in rehabilitation science, assistive technology, special education, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • Master's degree in rehabilitation science, assistive technology, special education, or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Usability, User Experience (UX) or related field and experience working with people with physical and sensory disabilities.
