Position Summary

Assist the Corps Officers with the Holiday Campaigns for the Corps.

Essential Functions



  • Assist the Corps Officer(s) in the smooth and effective running of the Christmas Campaigns (ie. Volunteers, Toy Drives and Food Drives)
  • Work with schools, businesses, churches, service clubs and individuals to solicit donated food, toys and financial donations
  • Coordinate drop-off of barrels and collection of donations with the Outreach Services Workers and other volunteer drivers
  • May be required to serve as recruit and coordinate volunteers for holiday events including the Red Kettle Campaign
  • May be required to work with Advisory Board members in location and securing public sites for the collection of food, toys or stocking stuffers, in the support and promotion of special fundraising events
  • Assist at all holiday events, i.e.. annual Thanksgiving Dinner
  • May be required to assist the Corps Officer with data entry, money counting and scheduling for the Red Kettle Campaign
  • May be required to assist in the sorting of food and toys
  • Leadership and people skills necessary to coordinate a variety of programs
  • Organized and able to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain a valid California Driver's License
  • If chosen to drive, must successfully complete Decision Driving Safety Test before driving for The Salvation Army and annually recertify as required
  • If chosen to drive, must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program (Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two [2] moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period; see The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy)
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training


Working Conditions



  • Access and produce information from a computer
  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the corps officer


Minimum Qualifications



  • At least 18 years old
  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Be neatly groomed.
  • Be friendly, respectful, honest, and punctual.
  • Minimum High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, helpful.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Understand the mission and purpose of the Christmas Kettle Program
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Must possess good relationship skills.
