This position assumes responsibility for the assigned department. Performs multiple clerical and receptionist duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Post High-School Medical Secretary education or previous unit secretarial experience, or equivalent experience. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Assists in the coordination of patient admissions, transfers and discharges appropriate to the ages of the patients served to provide for a smooth and efficient flow pattern. 2. Organizes and maintains Patient Medical Record according to the Medical Record Policies and Procedures. 3. Checks charts of patients scheduled for surgery or other special procedures to verify completeness of orders, consents, lab results, and signatures and makes copies as appropriate. 4. Promptly answers patient call lights and notifies appropriate personnel of response to call light. Initiates a face to face response, when necessary. Communicates in a manner appropriate to the ages of the patients served. 5. Utilizes the computer system independently to verify orders. Reviews new orders and responds to priorities promptly. Completes consults accurately. 6. Receives and delivers information timely and accurately. Immediately notifies RN of diagnostic results when called to the unit. 7. Completes and maintains documentation related to unit activities including but not limited to time and attendance, patient assignment sheets, current census within acceptable standards. 8. Restocks all medicine cupboards, nurse servers, and filing drawers with appropriate supplies/forms on a routine basis. 9. Orders, delivers, transports, receives, and returns supplies from ancillary departments according to departmental standards accurately and timely. 10. Performs efficiently in emergency situations. 11. Maintains white boards in patient rooms and nurses' station when assigned.
