Position Summary
Come join a growing team! We are looking for a new member of our team to function as a backup to Talent Acquisition, handling job postings, applicant screening, background checks, and education verification.
The incumbent will also support the Position Management Consultant with non-budgetary position changes and the Benefits Consultant with new employee deductions, invoice verification, and processing employee separations. The role includes creating and updating employee files, answering basic inquiries, and serving as a front desk backup. The incumbent supports HR Operations by creating reports, preparing information for campus distribution, and maintaining professional relationships to explain policies and procedures. They are responsible for administering the student employment process, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and conducting necessary employment activities. Additionally, the position involves advising managers and administrators on employment policies, procedures, and laws.
This position will serve as backup to the Leaves Administrator. Function as Talent Acquisition Consultant back-up with job postings, applicant screening, conducting background checks, education verification (when needed), and creating digital employee files. Assist Position Management Consultant with reviewing non-budgetary position changes, including but not limited to supervisor changes, position funding changes, title changes, and position updates. Assist Benefit Consultant with setting up new employee deductions for healthcare and retirement, verify monthly invoices for payment to vendors, and process employee separations. May serve as a backup to the front desk assistant when they are out of the office.Be proficient in answering basic employee inquiries in these areas regarding policies, procedures, and benefits.

bility to administer all benefit programs available to EHRA and SHRA employees at WSSU; makes benefit eligibility determinations, reviews appeals, and grant exceptions; benefits enrollment, assist employees with disability process, the retirement process; reviews benefits enrollment and change forms for accuracy and ensures that appropriate and accurate deductions are processed for payroll and enter benefits data manually or electronically; and coordinate the State's mandatory and university's optional benefits programs (health insurance, Retirement Programs, NC Flex, Life Insurance, TSERS, Disability, and other voluntary benefits.

Will assist with preparing information for campus distribution and HR website updates. Creates and maintains professional relationships to increase rapport and support to aid in explaining and interpreting policies and procedures. Conveys sensitive information or decisions to managers in a professional and timely manner. Works toward outcomes that are in the best interests of the organization and the unit. Initiates and leads (verbal or written) communications with institutional managers and administrators and, as necessary, desired/expected with HR colleagues to identify issues and solutions, recommend options, and summarize actions needed/taken.
Must work collaboratively with HR colleagues in talent acquisition, benefits and leave administration, position management, employee relations, and training and development.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Human Resources exists to provide human resources functionality for all employees of Winston-Salem State University. The unit will assist the Office of Academic Affairs in recruitment of EPA faculty positions as well as other administrative officers, in the recruitment of administrative positions. Additionally, Human Resources provides classification, recruitment, and candidate selection guidance and processing for SPA positions. The department has responsibility for administering all benefit programs, human relation administration, employee recognition and reward programs, salary administration, leave administration, position management, unemployment compensation, workers compensation, staff development training, as well as facilitation of both the American with Disabilities Act and Family Medical Leave Act.
