This program requires a minimum commitment of 8 weeks during the Summer 2025 Season.

Participation in this program requires medical screening, passing a drug test, and potential DOD Investigation.

VCS Construction Program - Summer Internship

Job Description:

Electric Boat offers an excellent learning environment and real-life experience for college students. Program Office Interns will join the program management teams whose responsibilities include the most important programs in the Navy, the COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA class submarine programs. Program Office Interns are provided with tasks that are both challenging and educationally stimulating.

Program Office Interns, working with senior staff and mentors, will support COLUMBIA class submarines, VIRGINIA class submarines, including the VIRGINIA Payload Module, the Maintenance, Modernization, and Waterfront organization, or the Life Cycle Support program. Activities include the management of design, construction, and overhaul & repair activities through the development, improvement, and utilization of metrics to optimize program performance, contract and product development and management, shipyard problem resolution, and other various technical activities.

Our Program Representative Interns take pride in the support they provide to protect our nation in the design, engineering, build, and delivery of world-class submarines. You will be working side by side with a diverse group of the top men and women shipbuilders in our industry working as your mentors while providing you with the opportunity to gain real-life experience in the workforce, applying the skills you have acquired in college. This is an opportunity to understand program management and may lead to a potential full-time position for those who have a passion for this type of problem-solving as part of our workforce of the future.

The VCS Construction Program Directorate is responsible for the management and oversight of VCS Submarine Construction.

Program Office Interns at Electric Boat will interface with engineers, designers, service departments, shipyard personnel, and our Navy customers. Using a design-build-sustain approach and working in a team environment, Program Office Interns will work with these teams to develop innovative solutions to solve design, new construction, and in-service problems on nuclear submarines. Upon acceptance into the Electric Boat internship, you will get a mentor on your first day that will work with you for the duration of your internship. VCS Construction Program Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:

    New Construction Planning and Oversight
  • Post-Shakedown Availability Planning and Oversight
  • Contracts Oversight and Execution
  • Urgent and Future Material Availability
  • Engineering Products
  • Design Products
  • Planning Products
  • Facilities Products


Qualifications

To be qualified for this position:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
  • Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university
  • At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2025 to September 2025.
  • Selected candidates will be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in Engineering: Engineering Management, Management & Engineering for Manufacturing (MEM), Mechanical, Electrical, Multidisciplinary Business: Finance, Accounting, Management, Supply Chain, Economics
