The Contractor Food Service Worker will support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support disaster response operations and manage temporary facility support services. Their primary role is to provide essential food services to individuals affected by emergencies/disasters and those serving on the front lines. Your attention to detail, culinary skills, and commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety will contribute to the overall well-being of the camp residents. This role is based in the United States and supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in disaster recovery initiatives.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for FEMA Food Service Worker:

Pay commensurate with experience.

FEMA Food Service Worker Responsibilities Include:



  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals according to established menus and dietary guidelines. Ensure that food quality, taste, and presentation meet or exceed expectations.
  • Adhere to strict food safety standards and hygiene practices, including proper handwashing, sanitation, and cleaning of food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils. Monitor food temperatures to prevent contamination.
  • Ensure proper portioning of meals to minimize waste while satisfying the nutritional needs of camp residents. Implement portion control guidelines consistently.
  • Interact with camp residents in a courteous and friendly manner, addressing their dietary concerns and preferences. Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the dining area.
  • Regularly clean and sanitize dining areas, service counters, and seating areas. Always maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assist with dishwashing, ensuring that dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned



FEMA Food Service Worker Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proven experience in food service, preferably in a similar setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Basic culinary skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects when necessary.
  • The position involves working in a FEMA man camp, often in a mobile kitchen or cafeteria setting.
  • The role requires flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of the camp residents.
  • May involve exposure to various weather conditions and high-stress situations.
  • Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to: Food Service Assistant, Crisis Response Food Service Specialist, or Disaster Recovery Dining Support.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
