The university has entrusted the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX (OIETIX) with ensuring these commitments are met through policy and process, prevention and training, data collection and analysis, and incident response and resolution. OIETIX utilizes a data-driven approach to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as with federal, state, and local civil rights laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Equity Data Analysis Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate data and driving informed decision-making within OIETIX. Collaborating closely with the entire OIETIX team, you'll ensure that our case management systems reflect complete and up-to-date information. Your expertise in data collection and analysis will empower us to address bias, discrimination, harassment, and other critical issues effectively. You will also have access to a community of practice with HR Analysis Specialists in other Cornell departments.

You will analyze reported data at the university and focused population levels to identify trends and themes across university populations relative to bias, discrimination, harassment, accommodation requests, affirmative action and other pertinent topics. You will report this information to HR and college/unit leaders and advise them on possible solutions to address concerning trends.

You will identify relevant program metrics, determine the best research methodologies to capture the metrics, and evaluate progress toward desired outcomes. Where appropriate, you will rely on metrics to make recommendations to improve programs/services offered by OIETIX and/or add new programs/services through fact-based decision making.

Core Qualifications:

We are seeking an Equity Data Analysis Specialist who has a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of degree and experience. Additionally, the Equity Data Analysis Specialist should possess the following:

  • Strong planning, research/analytical, organizational, presentation, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and compiling results in an understandable story with clear, impactful, actions steps.
  • Interest in improving systems to make them more comprehensive, user-friendly, and efficient.
  • Sophisticated reasoning skills and the ability to read and interpret established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to build strong relationships establishing credibility and trust.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate various events including trainings and data presentations with relevant campus partners.
  • Skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and surveying tools such as Qualtrics.
  • Willingness and ability to become an expert in the office's case tracking tool (currently Guardian) to ensure an understanding of how data interacts with the tool.
  • Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive information appropriately.

Success Factors

  • Data Integrity and Compliance: Ensure accurate data maintenance and compliance with internal policies, federal, state, and local regulations in managing the university's case management system.
  • Analytical Review and Recommendations: Utilize data analysis to identify trends, recommend solutions, and provide insights on bias, discrimination, and other pertinent issues affecting the university community.
  • Program Evaluation and Improvement: Assess the effectiveness of university programs through research, metrics, and continuous improvement, making recommendations to optimize services and address gaps.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with internal partners, including Title IX coordinators and HR leaders, to maintain compliance and improve university processes, policies, and equity programs.
