Purpose of Position |
The Honors College invites applications for an Associate Dean position beginning no later than January 2025. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean and assists the Dean in advancing the college's mission.
This search is open to internal candidates only. This is a twelve-month, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank. |
Primary Responsibilities |
The Associate Dean of the Honors College at
NKU will assist the Dean in supervising and managing the college's daily operations, such as course scheduling, student recruitment, direct supervision of the staff, and quality assurance. The Associate Dean will report to the Dean of the Honors College. This is a 12-month appointment.
With the support of the VPUAA and Acting Dean, the Associate Dean will
- Advance the honors college's mission and goals as defined in collaboration with the Dean
- Represent the Dean of the Honors College to campus and community constituencies as needed.
- Implement a strategic plan (mission, goals) created with the Dean that aligns with NKU's strategic plan vision and mission statement.
- Work closely with the Dean to Implement approved creation and/or revision of program curriculum, courses, and learning outcomes
- Recruit, supervise, train, evaluate staff, and make personnel-related actions recommendations to the Dean
- Create course schedules and recruit faculty to teach honors courses and mentor honors students after the Dean's approval
- Recruit, select, and retain honors students and strive to reflect the diversity of the larger university community
- Prepare budget request requests, track, and ensure that financial expenditures support the day-to-day operations of the Honors College's activities and programming
- Participate in alumni and donor relations and in collaboration with university development offices to design and implement a fundraising plan for the college
- Support and assist the Dean for the convening of the Honors Advisory Council
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the College's programs and activities.
- Coordinate students' advising, academic progress, and other appropriate support.
- Teach courses as appropriate and agreed upon with the Dean

Qualifications |
Must be tenured in one of NKU's colleges
The successful candidate will have experience:
- Working with the honors Dean, Faculty, Staff, and Students in shaping a thriving honors learning environment
- Teaching NKU courses, mentoring students, and supervising honors student projects (e.g., capstones, internships)
- Developing and supporting co-curricular activities to support experiential learning for honors students
- Engaging with students, creating and maintaining supportive student academic communities, and following best practices for student success in honors
- Understanding and navigating the current landscape of honors education at NKU, in the Commonwealth, and across the nation
- Building and sustaining an inclusive environment in which faculty and staff can collaborate on honors initiatives
- Directing or supervising a university program or department
