HDR Engineering is currently seeking a Substation Project Manager/Team Lead to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Ann Arbor, MI.

Primary Responsibilities



  • The primary duties of a Substation Project Manager/Team Lead include executing and managing all aspects of substation projects of all sizes and complexity, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, and quality control, schedule, and budget management. Experience with distribution, transmission line, communication, and system projection and planning projects would be an added benefit.
  • Duties include growing a local team of engineers and technicians to support projects and engaging in business development activities to support existing and new clients in the region.
  • Independently coordinates the work of engineers and the balance of the team throughout an entire project life cycle.
  • The Project Manager should understand basic project management tools and techniques including the following: Power Delivery project life cycle, client goals and objectives, contract types and project risk, Work Breakdown Structures, project scope, schedule, and budget, project initiation in HDR systems, Project Management Plans, financial management and controls, including earned value, and project closeout.
  • Coordinates with Area leadership for project reviews and with company management as needed.
  • Coordinates with marketing and technical leadership for business development.
  • Must thoroughly understand and implement the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • He/she works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more transmission APM's, Project Engineers and/or junior design staff.
  • Perform client management, project management and/or technical support activities.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience and client relationships in Michigan considered a strong advantage.
  • Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams; regional, department, and technical managers; and project staff preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, together with experience using project management tools, such as MSProject, a plus.
  • Experience working with Renewables developers and/or the interconnection of Renewables a plus.
  • Master's degree
  • PMP certification

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 7 years related experience
  • A minimum of 2 years project management experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
