Summary of Job Duties:Adult Education English/ESL Teacher

Grant Funded Position

The Adult Education English/ESL Teacher works under the supervision of the Director of Adult Education and will be responsible for providing instruction to individuals with a variety of personal goals, including: learning the English language, improving basic skills, gaining digital literacy skills, acquiring financial literacy skills, and/or earning a GED. This full-time position will be assigned to the UACCM Adult Education Center in Conway. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Teach basic skills/concepts in reading, language, and mathematics.

Provide a variety of instructional deliveries including individualized instruction, small group instruction, and whole class instruction.

Facilitate learning with textbooks, workbooks, lectures, computer based educational programs, audio/visual aids, hands-on activities, and peer tutors.

Assist students with the development of digital literacy skills.

Provide learning activities designed to enhance financial literacy skills.

Collaborate with students to document long and short-term goals based upon identified career pathways.

Participate in required training associated with the delivery of WAGE instruction.

Deliver instruction associated with the WAGE certification program.

Administer WAGE examinations and other required assessments to meet certification requirements for Employability, Customer Service I, Customer Service II, Industrial, Office Technology, and Bank Teller certificates.

Provide students with progress reports and update individual learning plans on a consistent basis.

Maintain accurate student attendance records.

Participate in professional development activities as required.

Participate in staff meetings.

Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The formal education of a bachelor's degree is required.

  • Adult Education teachers are required to hold a valid Arkansas Department of Education Educator's License.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of the minimum qualifications upon approval of the Chancellor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience providing Adult Education instruction is preferred.

  • Knowledge of adult learner and alternative educational methods and have the ability to apply these methods for adult, at-risk teens and multi-cultural students

  • Ability to teach students of diverse abilities and backgrounds and overcome barriers to success in a multi-level class

  • Ability to build a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Ability to relate well to different groups of students of different ages and ability levels.

  • Must be computer literate

  • Ability to use a variety of audio-visual equipment

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar and usage.

  • Must have good classroom management skills Must have strong desire to work with people from a broad range of backgrounds

  • Team-player who can collaborate with colleagues.

  • Participate in curriculum development

  • Attend in-service, staff meetings and state training.

  • Maintain clean and professional classroom environment.

  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Enthusiasm for the subject material that will foster a love of learning by students.

Salary Information:

$51,000 - $54,000; Commensurate with education and experience
