Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Supervisor, Lab Asphalt to oversee their quality control laboratory functions and specification compliance testing, train others in quality control and specification compliance testing, and troubleshoot testing, material, and production problems. Execute all requirements of the HF Sinclair quality management system. At the direction of the Technical Manager, conduct laboratory experiments aimed at furthering the business interests of the HF Sinclair Asphalt Group.

Job Duties


  • Manages and coordinates day-to-day affairs of HF Sinclair asphalt terminal laboratories ensuring quality of and confidence in test results is high.



  • Verifies execution of HF Sinclair product quality management systems to include accreditation by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.



  • Assists plant personnel in troubleshooting manufacturing problems.



  • Coordinates sample collection and distribution



  • Ensures the safety of all supervised employees and schedules assignments for lab personnel.



  • Tracks finished product formulations; assists in formulation adjustments or development of new formulations.



  • Coordinates experiments aimed at securing and verifying asphalt supply and other special assignments critical to HAC business as needed.



  • Designs and conducts experiments aimed at product development, research & development, corporate directives, etc., and analyzes and communicates experimental results.



  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.



Experience

A minimum of seven to ten years' experience in asphalt manufacturing and laboratory analyses environment, with at least five or more years being in a supervisory/manage role, is required. Asphalt manufacturing experience to include polymer modified asphalt and asphalt emulsions.

Education Level

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science is required.

Required Skills

Proficiency in running asphalt material characterization. Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations and proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software applications. Advanced mechanical ability and understanding of operational principles of assigned area's laboratory testing instruments. Ability to effectively communicate with others, in both written and verbal form. Proven supervisory skills. Intermediate reading and writing skills.

Preferred Skills:

Experience executing all the requirements to achieve accreditation by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the supervision of approximately five employees.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
