TITLE

Assistant Professor [Tenure Track] of Healthcare Administration, Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business and Entrepreneurship

JOB SUMMARY

This position involves full-time support of the delivery of graduate programs in Health Care Administration. Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses as well as engaging in scholarly research and academic and professional service. While the home location for this position will be the T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences campus in Dallas, the Master of Healthcare Administration is also offered on the Institute of Health Sciences campus in Houston. The teaching responsibilities may include online or hybrid course formats in support of enrolled students. The Healthcare Administration program has approximately 443 graduate students and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). The program is housed in the Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business and Entrepreneurship, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB - International).

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director of Healthcare Administration Program

Supervises: May supervise Graduate Assistants as needed

PRIMARY DUTIES - May include, but are not limited to the following:

Teaching graduate courses delivered in multiple teaching formats. Preference given to applicants with course/work experience in Health Services, Healthcare Finance/Economics, Health Policy and Population Health. Adjustments can be made to accommodate research interests.

Developing, enhancing, evaluating as well as teaching MHA courses.

Engaging in academic or applied research in alignment with college and program requirements.

Service activities are also required, are expected to support the attainment of program and College goals, and may involve service to students, to the program, to the College, the university, and the community. These are identified and measured in consultation with the program director or dean.

Maintaining an on-campus office presence as well as convenient office hours for students that meet departmental expectations.

Engaging in regular student advising, career advising, and establishing student mentoring relationships.

Contributing to and being responsible for overall student success.

Working collaboratively with academic personnel to conduct and oversee academic quality, including, but not limited to, program level assessment and institutional effectiveness.

Collaborating with faculty in the design, planning, and evaluation of student learning and program assessment.

Working with the program director and faculty to effectively respond to the CAHME standards and other reporting requirements to maintain our accreditation.

Attending regular departmental or college meetings, which may involve travel to Denton or Houston on occasion.

Performing other duties as required.

EDUCATION

A Doctorate degree in Healthcare Administration or related field, with sufficient qualifications to merit appointment within the Healthcare Administration program is required. Expertise in the area of finance or economics is ideal.

EXPERIENCE

This position prefers a record of professional success in the health care industry in addition to minimum educational qualifications, excellent oral and written communications skills as well as the ability to develop relationships with local and regional healthcare organizations are required. Prior teaching experience and experience in the generation, analysis, and dissemination of data is desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:



  • Knowledge of the discipline and ability to teach various courses within the program as required. Understanding and working knowledge of the HCA program and the COB strategic plan.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to build and direct student teams.
  • Ability to plan and deliver oral presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to develop relationships with stakeholders in healthcare and foster community partnerships.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university related software and email.
  • Working knowledge of technology and systems used to deliver educational programs to students, such as Canvas, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, SPSS, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Faculty are responsible for maintaining an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion, or harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is performed indoors in an office setting or may even be delivered online through a virtual environment.
