Overview

The Global Health (GH) Division works in infectious diseases - specifically Neglected Tropical Diseases, infectious disease, including TB, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria; global health security, Heath Systems Strengthening - including Health Governance, Health Finance, Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; Public-Private Partnerships; and Maternal-Neonatal-Child Heath and Reproductive Health and Family Planning. We address a range of public health problems to reduce disparities, lower disease burdens, and build locally owned sustainable health programs in lower- and middle-income countries.

RTI's International Development Group is seeking candidates for a Senior Proposal Writer position. Our international development team designs and implements programs across a wide range of sectors to help low- and middle-income countries and communities address complex problems and improve the lives of their citizens. Global health is a core focus of RTI International's mission to improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. TheSenior Proposal Writerwill serve as a senior member of the Global Health Division's Business Development Team and will provide strategic advice related to business development to the Global Health Leadership Team and will serve a Lead Technical Writer, supporting technical writer, and integrating writer for high priority proposals.

This role would be based in Washington DC or Research Triangle Park offices. Telecommuting would be considered on case-by-case basis. The Senior Proposal Writer may be expected to travel (domestic or internationally) up to 25% of the time and will report to the Director of Business Development within the Global Health Division. Candidates must be authorized to work in their country of residence without sponsorship.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the GHD's Business Development Team and provide advice related to business development and growth of the Global Health new business portfolio.
  • Serve as Lead Technical Writer, supporting technical writer, and integrating writer for GHD proposals, developing clear written products that are compelling and responsive to solicitation documents and requests for applications.
  • Coach and mentor technical and business development staff to improve technical writing and proposal writing skills and knowledge.
  • Lead proposal preparation and capture activities with a focus on developing customer-focused technical solutions, with sound win themes and differentiators.
  • Lead and participate in capture teams, including in-country travel as required to develop sound proposal strategies.
  • Develop well-written opportunity and capture analysis, including pre-RFP/RFA drafting and technical solution design.
  • Lead and support development of responsive technical proposal outlines and well written sections of proposals including contextual analysis, conceptual approaches, implementing methodologies, interventions, management and staffing chapters, corporate experience and past performance as needed.
  • Serve as a pink and red team reviewer for proposals within the Global Health Division, and other divisions within the international development group.
  • Support Business Development Director to conduct quality control over capture activities and live proposals with a focus on quality of technical solutions and quality of proposal writing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in public health, infectious disease, international health, health system strengthening, reproductive, maternal and child health, business administration, communications, international relations, or related field with 9 years of relevant work experience supporting business development in an international development context or Bachelor's Degree in health, business administration, communications, international relations, or related field with 12 years of relevant workexperience supporting business development in an international development context.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a lead writer on large, donor-funded technical proposals.
  • Track record of winning new business in Global Health funded by USAID and other donors.
  • Proven experience and track records in leading, designing, and writing proposals/applications for USAID-funded international Global Health programs. This includes experience drafting and editing proposal text related to Global Health subject matter.
  • Demonstrated capability to independently manage complex processes under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in at least one Global Health technical area (including Infectious Diseases; Health Systems Strengthening; Global Health Security; Maternal-Neonatal-Child Heath; Reproductive Health; and Family Planning)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent an organization to external audiences.
  • Strong communication, coordination and collaboration skills with proven experience applied in international context.
  • Ability to travel internationally for extended periods as needed.
  • International field experience in developing countries preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Salesforce and/or SharePoint preferred.
  • Proficiency in French, Spanish and/or Arabic preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
