Principal Software Engineer, Redwood City, CA

We're looking for a Principal Backend Engineer candidate with experience in Java EE, Spring Framework, and cloud technologies to join our team in Redwood City, CA - Hybrid

You will report to the VP, Product Development

You will own, design, develop, lead and deliver highly scalable cloud applications/frameworks.

Your Role Responsibilities? Here's What You'll Do

  • Own, design, develop, lead and deliver highly scalable cloud applications/frameworks.
  • Work with product management, architects and engineering leaders to understand the vision, product roadmap, and build forward looking cloud architecture & design.
  • Lead end-to-end feature development with other team members to ensure predictable delivery
  • Research emerging technologies and evaluate how they can be integrated into INFA's cloud platform
  • Demonstrate the "why" part of decisions with pros and cons; successfully convey the same to stakeholders.
  • Get application feedback from telemetry, product feedback from customer representatives like the support organization, quality feedback from test engineering and keep refining the product iteratively
  • Contribute to DEVOPS development activities and complex deployment tasks
  • Build good technical and architectural knowledge of areas beyond the scope of team or your area of expertise
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest tools and solutions that will best serve the business
  • Advise and educate stakeholders on the benefits of proposed approaches to software and solution development


What We'd Like to See

  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Harness, Git, IaC, Terraform, Ansible, and test automation frameworks
  • Working knowledge of React.js, jQuery, and Node.js.
  • Experience supporting services in a 24/7 production environment


Role Essentials

  • Strong experience in Java EE, Spring Framework, Persistence Framework (ORM), Web service protocol stack
  • Proven expertise in cloud architecture and implementation with features like multi-tenancy, high availability, telemetry, elasticity and security.
  • Well-versed in distributed systems, microservices architecture, Kubernetes, containerization, event-driven architecture and cloud-native delivery tools with low latency responses
  • Experience in tools like the ELK stack, OpenTracing, Grafana, AppDynamics and Prometheus
  • Experience in developing cloud applications that work on multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud...)
  • Experienced in building systems from scratch and integrating across services and components; knowledgeable on what "off the shelf" components are available, including open source; what to reuse and what to develop.
  • "Know and Own what you build": Intimately familiar with core system concepts for Linux. Can do capacity planning for cloud deployments. Knows how to define and build monitoring and measurement metrics with a strong emphasis on automation and development/operational efficiency.
  • Efficiency, Performance, and scalability: Have implemented complex systems that can perform and scale well under load using minimum resources.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience on cloud non-functional requirements; ability to quantify their benefits and incorporate in the design with no compromise on cloud-first design
  • Firm grasp of API strategies and best practices, experience in handling high volume transactions, data transfers, data limits, metering, and throttling
  • BA/BS or equivalent educational background, we will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant professional experience
