The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for two (2) individuals looking to join our team as an Academic Advisor I in the Jindal School of Management ( JSOM).
Work with other advisors, program directors, deans, and faculty to advise JSOM students on degree program requirements. Assist students with registration, create and update new student files, and assist with orientations. Advisor will be part of the Advising Office welcome team, available as the first point of contact for daily questions, answering basic inquiries, and routing more complex inquiries to the corresponding area. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field.

Function & Scope:
To participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising services and programs which promote comprehensive educational opportunities for all students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to work as a team member.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources.
  • Ability to use multiple computer systems including PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to identify students' needs to make appropriate referrals; maintain the confidentiality of student records.
  • Possesses strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational and management skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cooperates and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff in various campus offices as well as student populations in providing for the academic advising needs of individuals or groups of students.
  • Advises students about the development of educational plan options, university policies, and resources available.
  • Analyzes student records in preparation for appointments or walk-ins; responds to student emails in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for understanding and interpreting the requirements and academic options in a specific area and in other campus departments to facilitate the student's pursuit of fields of interest.
  • Attends training sessions or professional development workshops and disseminates information to staff as well as participates in student success initiatives.

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule may be available (currently 1-day remote weekly). Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
