Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology invites nominations and applications for the Senior Compliance Manager position. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and the Director, Research Security and Compliance, the Senior Compliance Manager will collaborate with stakeholders across departments, locations, and units to promote a culture of compliance and integrity in research by providing thought leadership on addressing evolving compliance concerns and changes in regulatory or policy requirements to ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. The compliance office is responsible for leading the implementation of a comprehensive compliance program from Missouri S&T through meaningful engagement of key university stakeholders and in collaboration with various constituencies of the university community. The Senior Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the enhancement of the current compliance program and developing a more robust environment of compliance; and overseeing, developing, and maintaining the highest level of compliance, ensuring compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, and policies and procedures. The Senior Compliance Manager would proactively enhance standards and procedures to ensure that the compliance program at the university is designed to detect, prevent, and correct noncompliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Compliance responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and monitoring research contracts for federal regulations that require compliance and research security measures
  • Reviewing and approving proposals, plans, and activities
  • Coordinating with Office of Sponsored Programs on audits of grant awards to assure that Missouri S&T is meeting award contract obligations, such as grant award spending, purchase of equipment, appropriated use of funds
  • Developing audit and compliance policies, procedures, and strategies
  • Collaborating with UM System to review and monitor conflict of interest (COI) submissions for Missouri S&T. Serve as the point of contact for COI resource for the Missouri S&T campus
  • Supporting assessment to monitor compliance with regulations and identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborates with The IRB of record and serve as resource for Missouri S&T campus
  • Developing and delivering training programs, tools, and workshops on research compliance topics in conjunction with relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinating with other compliance areas
  • Explaining policies and procedures to advise and assist others and/or team and ensure university and legal compliance
  • Collaborating with research policy, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to interpret and apply complex regulations and guidelines
  • Providing oversight of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), in collaboration with a faculty Chairpersons
  • Representing the university in interactions with regulatory agencies, sponsors, and other external stakeholders on matters related to research compliance
  • Supporting the Research Security Officer (RSO) with research compliance-related responsibilities including evaluation of research award contract for export controls and screening non-US persons and entities involved in sponsored research projects and contracts with the university
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; minimum of 3 years of experience in research compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related field, preferably in higher education or research environment
  • Work experience in research compliance functions, which may include proposal review; Subject areas include federal, state, and university disclosure requirements, federal funding agency requirements, human health research, responsible conduct in research, and research integrity, among others
  • In-depth knowledge of federal laws, regulations, and policies governing research (e.g., DOD, DOE, NIH, NSF)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and policies effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build consensus around compliance initiatives
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in research conduct and compliance activities
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,223-$94,141 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
