Position Overview

The Metrology Service - Intern will partner with the service team to service custom and off-the-shelf laboratory instrumentation and equipment and work on administrative related tasks/projects. This role will be responsible for assisting with, assembly, installation, calibration, routine maintenance, investigation and diagnosis of failures, repair, requalification, and filing service reports.

Essential Duties

  • Install instruments and perform installation and operational qualifications.
  • Investigate and diagnose failures with installed instruments and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot activities and repair instruments and equipment to service specifications.
  • Maintain program for preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

  • Must have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use troubleshooting skills to help identify and diagnose equipment failure.
  • Must be highly organized and able to produce high quality work as a part of a team.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Adaptable, open to change and able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information and unexpected circumstances.\

Scheduling requirements:

  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 40% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 60% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 30% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Enrollment towards an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in the Life Sciences or Engineering with at least two years of college-level coursework completed by start of internship .
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables and Word mail merge.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Record of outstanding academic achievement.

Salary Range:

$34,000.00 - $54,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
