The Radio Installation Technician is entrusted with the essential task of servicing and maintaining critical communication systems utilized by public safety and public service entities throughout various counties and localities in Virginia. These systems encompass a wide range of technologies including Astro 25 systems, Conventional Radio, 911 infrastructure, Computer Aided Dispatch Systems & Mobile Data Terminals, Recording Systems, Subscribers, parts/accessories, fleet mapping, dispatch centers, Network Equipment, and BDA's.

  • The Radio Installation Technician will partner with the customers, county employees and MSI employees to meet the city's requirements.

  • The Radio Installation Technician will collaborate with various departments such as the Systems Support Center, Dispatch Operations, Product Groups, System Engineering, System Integration, and Service Support Network, as well as third-party contractors.

  • In addition to fulfilling their daily technician responsibilities, the Radio Installation Technician will be responsible for overseeing cases and projects with the goal of enhancing customer satisfaction, minimizing downtime, and optimizing cost-efficiency.

  • Attendance at original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provided training sessions for all serviced equipment will also be mandatory.

  • Install, remove, program, and troubleshoot Motorola radio equipment, mobile computer equipment, mounts, cameras, and automatic vehicle location (AVL) equipment.

  • Assist with site cabling, such as Cat5, Cat6, and etc.

  • Work will be performed in accordance with industry standards, city requirements and where applicable, Motorola R56 standards.

  • Strong MS Office/Google Docs skills

  • Confidence to work alone with minimal supervision and/or support only available by phone.

  • Deliver knowledge of whole car packages, including lights, sirens, and consoles.

  • Provide excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, and communications skills, both orally and written.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license and have a clean driving record

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s) and customer background check.

  • Experience as a System Technologist, Field Service Technician or Radio Installation Technician

  • Preferred experience with Astro 25 systems, NICE Systems, Recording Systems, Subscribers, Parts/Accessories, Fleet Mapping, Dispatch Centers and BDA's.

  • Strong working knowledge of Motorola radios systems and their applications by customers.

Location/Travel:

  • The Radio Installation Technician must reside in the state of Virginia and preferably live a commutable distance to York County, VA.

  • The Radio Installation Technician may be required to attend OEM provided training.

  • Training will occasionally require some travel <10%.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements
  • 2+ years experience in one of the following: Electronics Technician, Communications Technician, Radio Installation Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, Field Service or Military experience with one or more of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, IT, Networking, or Networking equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
