Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to inclusively educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists from diverse backgrounds, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover and Serve.

Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

We are looking for a highly motivated licensed veterinary technician to join our passionate team of board-certified oncologists, residents, interns, registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants in the Oncology Service. We thrive on building relationships with our clients and cancer patients to provide state of the art medicine while at the same time, training the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Through our patient care and research, our team is a leader in cancer medicine, which impacts not only our patients but their human counterparts as well.

The ideal candidate will assist our team in the delivery of a wide range of cancer treatment options, procedures, and therapies (including some clinical trials). Attention to detail is a must, from patient care to the maintenance of computerized medical records.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • IV catheter placement, the anesthetic preparation, delivery, monitoring and recovery of patients receiving radiation therapy treatments.
  • Assist with sample collections, sedations and procedures including biopsies/minor surgical procedures, and imaging procedures (including radiographs, ultrasound and CT).
  • Maintain the anesthetic equipment/tools used for the radiation therapy service as well as adhering to controlled drug management and record keeping protocols.
  • Ensure that fees for services are appropriately applied to the patient bills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Previous oncology experience is not required, however, an interest in learning and growing your skill set is a must. Our nursing team advances their knowledge through regular rounds and paid journal clubs. Veterinary technicians at the VHC have opportunity for advancement on the Veterinary Technician Career Ladder.
