Ball State University Libraries is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative team member to join our dedicated Access Services unit as a User Services Assistant. This position assists Ball State students, faculty, staff, and community library users. The User Services Assistant answers research-related questions, checks out materials, and is responsible for assisting in the closing of Bracken Library on Friday and Saturday evenings. Successful candidates will have customer service experience and enjoy contributing to student academic success. The User Services Assistant will work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to provide excellent customer services and to promote the services and collections of the University Libraries. Position Function |
Provide services to library users as scheduled at Bracken Library service points, including partial weekend hours; perform circulation and clerical duties; prepare Bracken Library building for opening and/or closing; train and monitor student assistants in the performance of area work assignments and job duties; provide information assistance; receive and process new print materials; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries. |
Minimum Education |
Up to eighteen months of education beyond high school or equivalent |
Minimum Experience |
Over three months through one year of related experience; public service experience. |
Minimum Other |
Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications; exceptional customer service skills; effective oral and written communication skills; physical ability to lift collection and shelving materials up to 25 pounds, lift up to 10 pounds repeatedly, push a book cart up to 150 pounds, walk for 1 hour or more to perform walk-through/security checks of the entire building. |
