Position Overview

The Product Development Intern, with guidance from more experienced scientists, will assist with sample processing, reagent preparation, execution of bench experiments, data assembly, data analysis, and data presentation to support the development of future cancer diagnostic products.

This role is intended to be a full-time internship opportunity, during Summer 2025, onsite in Madison, WI.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with general laboratory duties and other support duties
  • Safely operate scientific instrumentation and equipment
  • Follow all biosafety guidelines when working with blood and/or stool specimens
  • Conduct basic, bench level experiments to generate data
  • Execute established quantitative nucleic acid amplification (qPCR) methods
  • Assist with immunoassay development and/or optimization
  • Assemble and analyze data, with guidance from more experienced scientists
  • Maintain an accurate lab notebook
  • Complete assignments in the expected time frame
  • Exercise excellent attention to detail when executing experiments and other duties
  • Demonstrate strong ability to work effectively within the team and department
  • Apply strong written and oral communication skills to present experimental results to supervisor and other scientists
  • Display basic problem-solving and critical thinking skills to overcome obstacles
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for up to 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment, including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment towards Bachelor's/Master's degree in field of Life Sciences.
  • Basic computer skills to include internet navigation, email usage, and word processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables and Word mail merge.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$34,000.00 - $54,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
