Work type: On Campus Location: Normal, Illinois Title: Chair, Department of Physics Job Summary Illinois State University (ISU) invites applications for the Chair position in the Department of Physics. The Department of Physics is looking for a visionary, collaborative, and successful teacher-scholar at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with administrative experience to oversee its undergraduate and newly established graduate (MS) programs in physics, as well as to foster faculty-led research efforts, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The ideal Chair candidate will be an experienced faculty member with proven leadership and administrative abilities, a strong track record of scholarly research and funding, a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student success, and a clear vision for the future of the Physics Department within the context of Illinois State University. Priority will be given to candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body in research, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students across various disciplines in the Department. The position is a twelve-month tenured appointment. The salary and rank are commensurate with qualications and experience. Additional Information Department of Physics: The Department of Physics is one of 19 departments, schools, and interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Sciences at ISU (https://cas.illinoisstate.edu/) offering bachelor's and master's degrees in physics nationwide. The bachelor's degree in physics has concentrations in physics, physics teacher education, computational physics, biophysics, and engineering physics. The Department has 11 full-time, 4 instructional faculty, and 7 support staff, approximately 100 undergraduate students, and a newly established MS degree program that launched in Fall 2024 (https://physics.illinoisstate.edu/academics/). Our dynamic research programs (https://physics.illinoisstate.edu/research/) are led by internationally recognized faculty members and supported by major external funding agencies (e.g., National Science Foundation), focusing on theoretical, computational, and experimental physics. Our faculty members maintain active, interdisciplinary collaborations with other science and technology departments across campus and the discipline.
