Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking an Electromagnetic and Nuclear Effects Engineer to provide technical support for the Technical Advisory and Assistance Services (TAAS) program at Hanscom AFB. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Advise and perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of nuclear survivability, electromagnetic pulse, high-altitude EMP, Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility, TEMPEST, Lightning, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation, Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics.
  • Define communications system requirements for nuclear survivability, electromagnetic pulse, high-altitude EMP, Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility, TEMPEST, Lightning, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation, Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics to meet operational needs and in compliance with associated policies, instructions, standards, and best practices.
  • Analyze requirements trade space, identify, and propose optimal solutions to meet cost, schedule, performance, and survivability requirements.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, design, and vulnerability assessments to evaluate the effects of radiation, electromagnetic pulses, and or/electromagnetic interference.
  • Assess electronics design for spacecraft, aircraft, terrestrial platforms, communications systems, and components for nuclear survivability, electromagnetic pulse, high-altitude EMP, Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility, TEMPEST, Lightning, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation, Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics.
  • Define test capability and infrastructure requirements.
  • Advise on the test planning, execution, analysis, and reporting of nuclear survivability, electromagnetic pulse, high-altitude EMP, Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility, TEMPEST, Lightning, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation, Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics testing.
  • Coordinate with stakeholder organizations such as DTRA, NEC, AFGSC, and others to capture electromagnetics and nuclear effects system and test requirements.
  • Guide verification, validation, and certification efforts.
  • Provide recommendations for and oversee the implementation, verification, and validation, of deficiency resolution.
  • Use modeling and simulation to analyze nuclear effects on aircraft, spacecraft, and communications systems.


Qualifications

15+ years experience in nuclear and electromagnetic engineering. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Able to apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future systems. Knowledge of systems engineering in support of system definition, development, integration, verification methods, sustainment, risk modeling/simulation, testing and evaluation, across a wide range of systems. Experience working on each stage of the system development life cycle from initiation through deployment/sustainment. Able to elicit and interpret requirements and translate to technical specifications/system design following best practices and design patterns. Able to communicate with management and technical staff in a clear and professional manner. Experience with engineering practices, techniques, and standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present technical presentations. Proven ability to understand the strategic and tactical approach to projects and handle multiple projects concurrently. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
