Salary range: $18.02 - $25.22 per hour. Pay is factored on specific experience.

Summary:

This position provides support for the hospital pathology lab and pathologist. This position will receive specimens, enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and package the specimens for courier shipments. Depending on the hospital location, this position will also provide assistance in procedures requiring slide preparations such as rapid assessments or frozen sections. Additional support activities include light administrative duties as requested by the pathologist, maintaining pathology laboratory equipment and reagents, and filing of blocks and slides.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and update the Pathologist schedule each day.
  • Pick up specimens from surgery or other hospital department locations for delivery to pathology.
  • Assess and accession Cytology specimens.
  • Assess and accession Histology specimens.
  • Data entry.
  • Scan requisition images.
  • Accessioning QA.
  • LIS reporting.
  • Handle slides for pathologist review.
  • Assist with hospital procedures, including but not limited to Fine Needle Aspirations, Frozen Section preparations, and Bone Marrow.
  • Maintains equipment.
  • Maintain reagent supplies.
  • Stocking supplies.
  • Assist with tumor board preparation.
  • Provide support services for other departments and pathologists.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
    1. Associate or bachelor's degree in laboratory science preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Competency with computers and MS Office programs.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, especially with numeric sequencing.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Adhere to HIPAA patient confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
