Posting Summary |
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Research Assistant (Temporary) for the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies which will report to the Sr. Program Manager. The Research Assistant (Temporary) will support the Center's research projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, responsive critical thinker with experience conducting research in and studying the social sciences (for example, sociology, social or cultural psychology, social work, economics, education studies, political science, or an interdisciplinary field).
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Qualitative and quantitative data collection (e.g., ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, surveys) and analysis.
- Requires close proofreading, editing, and preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, presentations, protocols, and reports.
- Marketing the Center's projects, programming (e.g., flyer, newsletter, and report design; email and phone correspondence; general promotion, etc.).
- Organizing public events around research projects including booking space, speaker coordination, logistics.
- Other duties as assigned

Work Arrangement |
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
*Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
*Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy. |

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous research assistant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Experience conducting qualitative research including conducting interviews, coding, and/or document review
- Experience analyzing quantitative data and developing charts, graphs, and other visualizations
- Both the capacity and willingness to learn new software, work routines, and research methods
- Ability to work independently and accurately without direct supervision
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Responsiveness; unless previous arrangements have been made, the RA should be willing to respond to emails within 24 hours

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Master's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative research methods and measurements
- Experience using data analysis software, such as R, SPSS, Stata, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, MAXQDA, NVivo, etc.
- Experience using graphic design software to prepare marketing materials
- Experience writing for a variety of audiences
- Familiarity with IRB and human subjects procedures
