Job Summary Assures that clinical and regulatory practices meet policy and operational needs of respiratory care activities for Acute Care, Critical Care, Emergency Department and other related patient care areas within their respective campus. Assures appropriate coordination and distribution of staffing and resources. Performs clinical support and supervision of RT staff in conjunction with the manager of Respiratory Care. Delivers competent care, applying advanced clinical skills to intervene in complex patient care situations and mentor staff in problem resolution. Assists in establishing best practice performance standards and assures adherence to Departmental Clinical Practice Guidelines. Advocates and requires accountability, professional communication, teamwork and shared decision making of their team members.
Accountabilities
Coordinates and supervises clinical and support staff assigned to the shift; develops work schedules, assignments, and daily activities in all areas. Redistributes staff and resources as necessary to ensure safe, effective and efficient operations. Balances operational and patient care needs through interpretation of monitoring tools to optimize productivity and ensure quality services. Assures workload assignments are appropriate. Serves as a clinical resource and assumes patient care assignment when needed to assure appropriate workloads. 20% Responds to, assesses, and resolves all patient emergency situations. Intervenes to ensure safe & well-coordinated patient care, escalates chain of command for medical and operational emergencies as indicated. 20% Responsible for performance management activities: scheduling and adequate coverage, coaching, counselling, orienting (in collaboration with RT Educator), training and unit rounds. Partners with Manager to conduct performance appraisals. 15% Participates in department and organizational activities.1. Attends leadership, discharge planning, interdisciplinary care, quality & committee meetings as assigned. 2. Actively participates in department meetings3. Participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives.4. Ensures adherence to Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures & prepares for Accrediting Body (TJC, CMS, DHEC) Readiness through EOC rounds, K-Cards Audits, documentation review as well as direct patient care observations.5. Acts as a Liaison between Respiratory Care and other services 15%. Assists manager with reports for quality, financials, productivity, etc. 10% Conducts Shift Huddles to facilitate Hand Off between in on coming and off going shifts, team problem solving, staff development and dissemination of information. Maintains records of issues discussed. 10% Rounds with staff as required to collect specific feedback on technology, medical equipment, workflow and other opportunities related to their ability to provide quality care to their patients 10%. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree Healthcare, Respiratory Care, Education, or related Experience as a bedside therapist in an acute care setting with at least 1 yr. experience at Prisma Health
In Lieu Of
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
BLS, RRT, AARC Membership Required. NBRC credentials must be maintained. Specialty Certification may be required based on individual department/ Affiliate Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in SC. Certification required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit: ACLS, NRP, FCCS, CAM Class or PALS Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) National Board for Respiratory Care (Lawson Code CRRT)
