The anticipated salary range for this role is between $95,000.00and $150,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Credit Modeling Associate with strong quantitative skills and knowledge of banking and bank products to develop a variety of credit, stress testing, and other related models within the Model Development Group.

As part of SMBC's 2LoD, the Credit Modeling Associate main responsibility entails working with data, business and other stakeholders, and other Model Development Group team members to develop, test, and deploy credit and stress testing models.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement credit stress testing and other statistical models
  • Manage data feeds associated with group modeling activities
  • Work with stakeholders to understand and refine model requirements
  • Work with team members and model validation team to get models validated
  • Monitor model performance for various model types and make recommendations
  • Assist with quarterly stress testing production runs
Role Core Competencies/Skills:
  • Strong training and some applied experience in statistical modeing including linear and non-linear modeling, classification trees/random forests, and other machine learning techniques
  • Critical thinking and ability to manage and analyze large data sets
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, and SQL
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of commercial banking and bank products
Qualifications and Skills
  • Masters degree or higher in statistics, computer science, or economics
  • 1-3 years of applied statistical modeling experience
  • Superior attention to details, ability to quickly individuate and focus on the key risks factors of highly structured transactions and visually present complex concepts with graphs, tables and flow charts.
  • Flexibility to work under tight deadlines and in a multitasking environment.
Additional Requirements
