Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Sr. Engineer to provide technical support for the Technical Advisory and Assistance Services (TAAS) program at Hanscom AFB. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Apply engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods sufficient to extend or modify theories, concepts, and assumptions.
  • Resolve unique or novel problems, conditions, or issues which may require significantly altering standard practices, equipment, devices, processes, and known techniques.
  • Provide expert advice to professional colleagues and/or agency officials responsible for broad program operations.
  • Apply and support digital engineering concepts and techniques throughout the program lifecycle, such as providing technical support to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Evaluate the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, and applications.
  • Investigate, predict, and anticipate issues and conditions extending beyond a single specialty area and affecting known standards, approaches, precedents, or concepts.
  • Develop or collaborate in the formulation of new standards, applications, concepts, or theories.
  • Advocate recommendations, strategies, and actions to reconcile or resolve novel, conflicting, or controversial issues or policies.
  • Perform needs analysis to define opportunities for new or improved systems engineering programs/processes.
  • Perform problem/gap definition, trade space analysis, science, and technology roadmap analysis, concept development, decision analysis, and cost, schedule, performance/system capability/system security trade-off analysis.
  • Incorporate system security and resiliency engineering as part of system designs to meet operational needs and operational/environmental factors.
  • Develop cost estimates for new or modified systems.
  • Evaluate alternative proposed plans, systems engineering programs, design, and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved in accordance with program specifications.
  • Prepare management reports and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action using application of engineering economy principles.
  • Prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/functional/subsystem characteristics, requirements, and specifications.
  • Ensure the integration of all system components and with external systems.
  • Design/perform system level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications.
  • Perform validation of systems, including development of criteria and procedures.
  • Analyze and/or evaluate test results of major engineering systems.
  • Manage/sustain program technical baseline.
  • Provide system/program engineering, technical support, and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.
  • Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force processes.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to incorporate communications systems and Modular Open System Architectures (e.g. Open Mission Systems) on host platforms with an NC3 mission to enable NC3 modernization.


Qualifications

10+ years experience in a systems engineering role. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements. In-depth knowledge and skill in applying engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods sufficient to extend or modify theories, concepts, and assumptions. Able to exercise judgment and ingenuity in evaluating the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, or applications; investigating, predicting, and anticipating issues and conditions extending beyond a single specialty area, and affecting known standards, approaches, precedents, or concepts. Experience developing or collaborating in the formulation of new standards, applications, concepts, or theories changing existing knowledge and extending an understanding of phenomena. Able to assess and carry out strategies and actions to affirm the integrity, economy, quality, and effectiveness of engineering, or scientific programs. Able to advocate recommendations, strategies, and actions to reconcile or resolve novel, conflicting, or controversial issues or policies. Attitude, adaptability, and ability to learn are paramount. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a US Citizen and hold a current Top Secret clearance.
