Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Sr. Communications Engineer to provide technical support for the Technical Advisory and Assistance Services (TAAS) program at Hanscom AFB. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Define communications system and datalink concepts, architectures, capabilities, and system requirements to include interoperability, interfaces, COMSEC, and TRANSEC.
  • Analyze communications system trade space, identify, and propose optimal solutions to meet cost, schedule, performance, security, and resiliency requirements.
  • Develop and document communications protocols to maintain interoperability between NC2 elements while supporting a flexible CONEMPS, allowing for rapid, responsive evolution of the weapon system capability.
  • Interface with Developmental and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E), AFGSC, ACC, Air Force Command and Control Integration Center (AFCIC), Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SNWSC), and other stakeholders to identify required policies, processes, requirements, and other needs that are necessary to design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy new communications capabilities.
  • Advise staff Engineers, Integrated Product Team (IPT) members, Program Managers (PMs), and joint combined test team customers on performance, schedule, and cost considerations and issues with respect to the design, development, integration, test, and deployment of new communications capabilities.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to incorporate communications systems and Modular Open System Architectures (e.g. Open Mission Systems) on host platforms with an NC3 mission to enable NC3 modernization. Analysis considerations should include SWAP-C, HW/SW processing environments, and technology limitations.
  • Demonstrate understanding of RF communications technology and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Waveforms, to include network characteristics, link protocols, link performance, and supporting infrastructure requirements for EHF/SHF/AEHF, LF/VLF, and/or HF.
  • Support test and demonstration efforts to include interoperability testing with Air Force and other Service platforms.
  • Develop, document, and present CONEMPs to support operating concepts using new communications technologies and concepts.
  • Apply and support digital engineering concepts and techniques throughout the program lifecycle, such as providing technical support to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).


Qualifications

10+ years experience in communications engineering. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Working knowledge and/or experience in the following: DoD aerial data links, DoD aerial data link message formats, aerial networks, over-the-air communications architectures, RF communications and systems, open architectures including Open Mission Systems (OMS), UCI and XML message formats, XML message compression, and industry/DoD/FFRDC concepts/architectures for an aerial network convergence layer. Able to work proactively and effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of an organization. Possess the advanced knowledge, experience and recognized ability to be considered an expert in technical field and possess the ability to perform tasks and oversee the efforts of junior and mid-level personnel within the technical/professional discipline. Able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical discipline as well as possess a comprehensive understanding and ability to apply associated standards, procedures, and practices in their area of expertise. Experience in assisting with strategic level issues and ability to work independently as well as a team member under tight deadlines with changing priorities. Possess proven leadership, team building, strategic planning, and organizational development skills. Experience in packaging and presenting briefings for senior level reviews. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to travel as needed. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
