Position Title: Packaging Mechanic Level II

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Primary Function:

Responsible, as per training administered, work related to: equipment repairs and changeovers, preventive maintenance activities, corrective troubleshooting on machinery, equipment inspection and installation, equipment system performance improvement. Performs all work in accordance to company policies, procedures and regulations contained in company GMP'S, safety standards, SOP's and housekeeping standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: Responsible for mechanical/ electrical equipment repair and troubleshooting, process improvements, equipment changeovers, minor fabrication of machine parts on packaging machinery, as per training administered.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate competency on all requirements for Packaging Mechanic - Levels 1
  • Describe all machine controls, where trained, and their functions.
  • Identify all safety devices and emergency switches on all lines and equipment.
  • Verify understanding of all safety procedures, where trained.
  • Operate all equipment, where trained
  • Describe the start-up, operation and shutdown procedures for each piece of equipment.
  • Operate and interface with on-line computers.
  • Perform minor changeovers, where trained.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks, where trained, on designated equipment.
  • Maintains records and documentation as required.
  • Maintains work area, tools and equipment in a clean and safe order.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, leadership, and training in the performance of their duties.
  • Exhibits flexibility acquired through training to be utilized at any position as needed in the company, or elsewhere in the facility, or as a trainer.
  • Must have proven success in changeovers and production coverage.
  • Perform and Document all equipment Challenges that are list per MPI

Materials:

Machine parts and assemblies, pipe and fittings, lubricant, solutions, changeover parts as per training administered.

Tools and Equipment:

Various hand and power tools as per training administered.

Reports to:

Mechanical Supervision, Production Supervision

Supervises:

  • Work independently with a minimum amount of supervision or direction or as part of a team or crew. Directs other personal as necessary in the course of their duties.

Education:

All Candidates: HS Diploma or GED Equivalent

  • Internal Candidate: All OJT from Level 1 mechanic position Completed and in good standing.
  • External Candidate: Preferred Industrial maintenance certificate or documentation of internal training at a previous employer.

Experience or Equivalent:

  • Internal Candidate: a minimum of 2-4 years in the current technical role as a Level 1 mechanic or equivalent demonstrated proficiency/knowledge and has a good understanding of Packaging or mechanical maintenance, changeovers and equipment troubleshooting.
  • External Candidate: a minimum of 4-6 years in a technical role with demonstrated understanding of packaging or mechanical maintenance, Changeovers and equipment troubleshooting.
