JOB TITLE:

Actionable Science & Engagement Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for an Actionable Science Coordinator for the Wyoming Anticipating Climate-Water Transitions (WY-ACT) project with the Center for Climate, Water and People. This NSF-EPSCoR funded project builds the capacity of Wyoming residents to anticipate and prepare for significant and lasting changes in water availability. This position will coordinate engagement activities to create useable and actionable science, track community engagement, and build capacity and sustainability for the Center for Climate, Water and People. The project will be based in Laramie with travel to communities in western Wyoming. We are open to considering alternative primary work locations within Wyoming if the location benefits the project.

We seek an organized, personable, and adaptable colleague to serve in this critical project position. We welcome applicants with demonstrated experience in facilitation, creating knowledge across diverse groups, and a desire to work with Wyoming communities. Candidates may bring expertise from any number of applicable fields including communication, extension, public policy, environmental policy, political science, natural resources, water, ecology, and collaborative governance, and could include experience in the public, private or nonprofit sector.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate engagement activities to create usable and actionable science
  • Track community engagement
  • Build capacity and sustainability for the Center for Climate, Water and People

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in performance-related goal setting and achievement to meet personal and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in training and other personal professional development activities.

  • Meeting facilitation

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

The project will be based in Laramie with travel to communities in western Wyoming. We are open to considering alternative primary work locations within Wyoming if the location benefits the project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: 2 years work-related experience in outreach and engagement with communities

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of and interest in environment and natural resource issues (especially water);
  • Experience planning, facilitating, and coordinating meetings;
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication;
  • Demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive processes for all people;
  • Interest in collaborative approaches to knowledge creation.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field of study;
  • At least 5-10 years in outreach and engagement;
  • Experience leading collaborative research and/or community projects;
  • Experience with water in the Mountain West;
  • Knowledge of Wyoming and experience with Wyoming water users and actors;
  • Experience in team science;
  • Experience in working with tribal and/or Latinx communities;
  • Experience raising funds from diverse sources including state and federal grants, foundations, and private donors.

*Compensation for this position ranges from $46,800- $55,008, but qualified candidates will likely start near the lower end of the range. The position includes full benefits including health, vacation days and sick leave.
