Position Summary:

The purpose of the Youth Outreach & Recreation Manager is to oversee programming, staffing, and operation of youth and school focused programs as well as oversight of Center recreation activities. This position will be responsible for the specific organization and participation of school outreach programs, oversight of Zone activity center, rock wall, planning and supervision of all Camp Kroc and Schools Out Day Camps. Daily relationship building with front line staff in related departments (Zone, Climbing Wall, Gym) is required. The candidate must have a skill set that includes vision casting, strong execution skills, a passion for staff and team development and willing to lead by example.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Promote the Mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Hiring, supervision and scheduling of all department positions. These positions include but are not limited to attendants, leads, instructors and volunteers in camp, Zone, school outreach initiatives, and special/seasonal events.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of Discovery Club, Zone, climbing wall and school activities.
  • Oversee climbing wall including, but not limited to, wall maintenance, training and safety instruction and implementation.
  • Oversight of Birthday Parties, group field trips and rentals.
  • Coordinate with school district staff and counselors to facilitate youth programs offered to meet the needs of the school districts.
  • Maintain community relations to build and develop youth outreach programs. Establish new and maintain existing relationships with local youth pastors.
  • Collaborate with Program Department and Marketing Team to create Camp Kroc guide.
  • Direct and detailed oversight of Camp Kroc and Schools out Day Camps.
  • Camp Kroc responsibilities include coordination of camp schedule, staff hiring and continued development, coordination of special guests and activities, transportation, quality parent engagement skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead the Youth Outreach and Youth Development Coordinators, to empower, delegate, and collaborate toward quality program outcomes.
  • Be willing and able to be present on the floor and engage camp staff and campers in a supportive manner.
  • Develop and implement standards and assessments for evaluation and improvement of department programs.
  • Ensure that department staff and members view the Kroc Center as a safe place to belong and grow.
  • Recommend new ideas and concepts to improve program offerings & member usage and retention.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings to ensure consistent communication, training, and accountability.
  • Work with Center Director to prepare department budgets and other financial information.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership to promote community awareness of community engagement, programs, activities and opportunities the Kroc Center may offer.


General Qualifications and Proficiencies:



  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience, and 2+ years of youth related, summer, ministry or organizational experience.
  • Successful candidates must possess strong interpersonal communication skills, multitasking abilities, and computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate positively, professionally and energetically with staff, youth, their parents, & members.
  • Flexible schedule, able to occasionally work weekends/evening hours
  • Lead others by example & train/develop staff and volunteers to improve their skills and understand policy.
  • Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a variety of age groups in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with customers, clients, members, and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Must have command of the English language and possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Valid driver's license and insured transportation.


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be 21 years of age at time of application.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer and tablet.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
