Position Summary

The Perioperative Patient Care Assistantperforms basic patient care tasks as a cooperative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, in the Surgery Services nursing unit at MemorialCare Long BeachMedical Center. He/she reports at all times to a supervising nurse. This position also indirectly supports patient care by providing clerical support to the unit as assigned. The Perioperative Patient Care Assistantfacilitates a safe, clean working environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

• Performs activities as identified on Perioperative Patient Care Assistant competency checklist while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
• Participates as a member of the health care team.
• Respects patient confidentiality at all times.

* Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.

* Maintains a safe, clean and healthful environment.

* Attends department specific staff meetings, in-services, education and training.

* Participates in selected department specific Performance Improvement Projects.

* Demonstrates skills consistent with standards of practice and Departmental

* Policies and Procedures.

* Participates in orientation of new staff as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

• Prior work experience in an acute hospital setting is preferred.
• Must have basic knowledge of standard perioperative care procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is recommended.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) certification is required.
• High school diploma or equivalency
