Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The University of the Pacific is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Study Abroad to join the Pacific Global team. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader in the field of international education, with robust experience in study abroad programming, strategic development, and execution. This role is pivotal to advancing the university's mission of fostering global engagement through immersive international experiences.
The Associate Director will oversee all aspects of the study abroad program, ensuring a high-quality student experience while promoting intercultural competence. The position requires someone who is both a strategic thinker and an operational leader, capable of independently designing and executing plans that align with institutional goals.
Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage the university's study abroad programs, including program development, recruitment, advising, and student support services.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for study abroad that supports the institution's global engagement goals.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and external partners to integrate study abroad opportunities into the curriculum and co-curricular programming.
  • Oversee all program operations, including budget management, risk management, and compliance with institutional policies and standards.
  • Ensure strong partnerships with international institutions, providers, and networks to offer diverse and robust study abroad options.
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to increase student participation and expand program offerings.
  • Provide leadership in the development of study abroad policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for faculty and administrators on matters related to study abroad.
  • Deliver high-quality advising to students on all aspects of studying abroad, from program selection to pre-departure orientation and re-entry support.
  • Monitor and assess program outcomes, including student learning objectives and program satisfaction.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in study abroad or international education, with demonstrated responsibility for overseeing programs and driving strategic initiatives.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to independently develop and execute long-term plans.
  • Experience with budget management, risk management, and international partnership development.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with technology and tools related to study abroad administration.
  • Experience working in or managing programs in a university setting.
  • Knowledge of international higher education trends and the ability to adapt programs accordingly.
  • Language proficiency and cultural competence in one or more regions of study abroad focus.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with the use of computer and phone. Work is generally performed during standard business hours, additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $71,596.39 - $98,456.30 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
