https://ualr.edu/art/ Summary of Job Duties:The successful candidate's responsibilities include teaching painting at all levels. This Assistant Professor of Painting position will also have responsibility for advising and mentoring students, participating in recruitment and retention activities, curriculum assessment and development, grant program administration, and contributing to unit, college and university committees. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • MFA in painting, studio art, or related field.
  • Evidence of scholarship related to the position requirements.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • University-level teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships.
  • A strong record of creative work and evidence of ongoing professional achievement.
  • Experience working with diverse populations of learners.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching painting courses and management of painting curriculum.
  • Maintaining the painting studio.
  • Advising School of Art and Design students.
  • Supervision of student workers assigned to painting studios.
  • Supervision of adjunct faculty within the painting area as needed.
  • Teaching foundation and seminar courses on an as needed basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of oil, acrylic media, and expanded approaches to painting media.
  • Knowledge of both historical and contemporary approaches to painting.
  • Knowledge of studio safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer software related to art, design and teaching.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach multiple aspects of painting, including observational, representational, and non-representational approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate.
  • Ability to demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising.
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other faculty across the university.
  • Willingness to develop opportunities for engagement with the broader community.
