As a Moog, Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the materials and components supplied by external vendors meet the required quality standards. Your responsibilities are multifaceted and can vary depending on the industry and our needs.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer you may be responsible for:

Supplier Evaluation and Selection:

Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of potential suppliers to ensure they have the capability to meet the company's quality standards. This may involve on-site audits, reviewing quality management systems, and assessing production capabilities.

Qualification: Work with cross-functional teams to qualify new suppliers, ensuring they meet all technical and regulatory requirements.

Supplier Development:

Training and Support: Provide training and support to suppliers to help them understand the company's quality requirements and improve their processes.

Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with suppliers to implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma, to enhance quality and efficiency.

Quality Assurance:

Inspection and Testing: Develop and implement inspection and testing procedures for incoming materials and components. This may include first article inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections.

Non-Conformance Management: Identify, document, and manage non-conformances. Work with suppliers to investigate root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Performance Monitoring:

Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor supplier performance. This can include metrics such as defect rates, on-time delivery, and responsiveness to issues.

Regular Reviews: Conduct regular performance reviews with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, quality issues, and improvement plans.

Compliance and Documentation:

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that suppliers comply with all relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, or specific regulatory requirements for industries like aerospace, automotive, or medical devices.

Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of supplier evaluations, audits, non-conformances, and corrective actions. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible.

Risk Management:

Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.

Contingency Planning: Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential supply chain disruptions.

Collaboration and Communication:

Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with other departments, such as procurement, engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure alignment on quality objectives and supplier performance.

Supplier Communication: Maintain open and effective communication channels with suppliers to address issues promptly and foster strong working relationships.

New Product Introduction (NPI):

Support NPI Projects: Participate in new product development projects to ensure that supplier quality considerations are integrated into the design and development process.

Validation and Qualification: Oversee the validation and qualification of new materials and components from suppliers during the NPI phase.

In summary, you may be responsible for ensuring that suppliers deliver high-quality materials and components that meet the company's standards and requirements. This involves evaluating and selecting suppliers, developing and supporting them, monitoring their performance, managing non-conformances, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.

Here's what you'll need to be considered for this exciting opportunity:
  • Bachelor's of Science in a technical discipline with a minimum of three (3) years related experience.

  • Technical competence and experience, qualifications, training and skills may be required depending on the exact job context: For example, metallurgy, industrial chemistry, processing knowledge, metrology, Moog product knowledge, GD&T, machining, electrical components.

  • Source Inspectors and SQEs should have experience with measurement equipment such as surface plates, height gages, micro height, gage blocks, CMM equipment etc.

  • Proven experience with gage R&R studies, gage correlation and MSA is highly advantageous.

  • Experience with formal problem solving and quality improvement tool and techniques (5-why, Ishikawa, RCCA, 8D, DMAIC etc).

  • ISO 9001:2015 auditor training / certification is advantageous.

  • Able to plan and manage own work to accomplish assigned objectives.

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $70,000.00-$100,000.00 Annually

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
