Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Reporting to the National Director, Equity & Inclusion, the Program Manager is responsible for managing Equity and Inclusion policy compliance and case management related to member inquiries, complaints and allegations related to contract violations and unlawful discrimination or harassment. The Program Manager will support the National Director, Equity & Inclusion with respect to all aspects of the departments work in the areas of union, city, state and federal policies and practices regarding equity and inclusion and non-discrimination. The Program Manager also provides support for assigned department initiatives and NY Local based programming and engagement activities. May also supervise department support staff.

    Manage the day to day intake and processing of complaints from members on unlawful harassment and/or discrimination. May be involved in strategic planning and campaign development.
  • Understand laws, regulations and policies governing harassment and discrimination at both federal and state level.
  • Provide information to SAG-AFTRA members regarding policies pursuant to the Union's collective bargaining agreements and relevant options available through federal and state non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity provisions.
  • Maintain complaint-tracking database and develop reports for management on unlawful harassment, discrimination etc. from related data.
  • Attend panels, educational discussions, events and forums to keep informed on organization and industry stakeholder's work that intersect with the work of the union and in efforts to better understand the needs of the members and development relationships.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of member education programs and events including panels, workshops and seminars.
  • Develop ideas and solutions in partnership with department staff, members, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Provide support and research for contract negotiations as needed.
  • Responsible to train department Coordinator(s) in areas of Programming & Engagement and Policy & Compliance. Perform Coordinator(s) responsibilities as a back-up.

  • Must possess an understanding of issues related to diversity, non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity principles and laws.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to engage and build relationships. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally.
  • Well-developed group facilitation experience and skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and leverage analytics to improve outcomes and drive change.
  • Creative problem solver and diplomat. Able to mediate disputes and negotiate with tact under pressure.
  • Must possess knowledge of working relationships in entertainment and media (i.e. casting directors, producers, directors, agents, managers, publicists).
  • Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact.
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications and Internet-based systems.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written; consultative skills to gain the respect and trust from staff and leadership alike in building impactful solutions.
  • Able to use sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple assignments and projects; able to thrive in a highly dynamic work environment; able to develop creative solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or 2-3 years equivalent experience.
  • 1-23 years of Diversity and Equity & Inclusion experience.
  • Experience in film, television, commercial, new media, broadcast news, sound recordings, and/or radio industries or community based organizations focused on issues of diversity, affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND:

  • Knowledge of entertainment industry highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a union environment a plus.
  • Able to demonstrate SAG-AFTRA values-Excellence through Collaboration, Accountability, Integrity and Respect-through past work experiences is a plus.
  • Bilingual and/or Spanish-speaking is a plus.
